Competition - A Companion for the Chrysler Building
William Van Allen International Student Design Competition. A companion for the Chrysler Building, NYC - While studying at Politecnico di Milano, Facoltà di Architettura, Milan, Italy – 1994.
Two wooden stakes thrust into the streets of Manhattan. This is a dynamic reaction to the existing situation where the skyscrapers stand silent and motionless, perhaps lifeless. The towers pierce the surface, the force of their movement throwing up shards of fractured planes inhabited by the public functions of the building: theaters, bars, restaurants and retail outlets. The façade is composed by a glazed curtain wall, with its surface treated to finally become how I have drawn it.
